Indonesia's Painter Raden Saleh - Founder of Indonesian Painting

On August 17, 1969 - on Indonesia's independence day - Prince Raden Saleh was honored posthumously by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia for his contribution to Indonesia's modern art as "Founder of Indonesian Painting".

Already 2 years prior a series of postage stamps had been issued in his honor. Only very few of those stamps remain today as rare collectors items, enjoying a tremendous increase in value.
